Shabbat Shalom

I was honored this weekend to provide a presentation about Alzheimer's disease to the Jewish Temple near where I live.  The Friday night Shabbat Service was beautiful and sincere and even though I did not understand all that was said I could sense the love and kindness among the people there.  It made me reflect on how many different religions there are and how many paths to God and yet every one involves kindness, compassion and love for their fellow man.

I am not one to attend church but I consider myself a spiritual person of great faith.  I enjoyed observing the service and realizing that even though we may believe differently about some things there are basic beliefs among all of us that are strong and drive our character and behaviors.  It is nice to observe how people support one another in need and care for and love their children.  That is something that surpasses the dogmas or teachings but goes deep into the spirit of the humankind.

It reminds me that we each need to be more tolerant of each other and learn to appreciate the good in all around us rather than finding the differences and judging those who may not think or believe as we do.  Oh to be able to merely observe and appreciate everyone wherever they are.  I think this would be the greatest gift.
