Sadness & Loss

The past few weeks there have been many disasters and things going on in our states and country that cause us to be sad.  There were catastrophic floods in central Texas where over 100 people lost their lives, many of whom were young children.  The losses are overwhelming and yet, so too are the many actions of bravery and concern.

There was also a flood in my small town home in Ruidoso, New Mexico where there had been large fires last year.  When the monsoon rains came the earth had been hardened through the fires so the water ran off with a power that had not been witnessed before.

Last night I watched the news where the subways in New York had rains that caused people to be threatened by the waterflow.

In the Grand Canyon, one of our countries greatest National Parks, the 100 year old lodge burned to the ground from the fires.  It seems like everywhere we turn the is sadness and loss.  While all of these things are acts of nature and little can be done to prevent them, it does cause me to wonder what is happening in our world.

If man didn't cause this then what can man do to deal with the sadness and loss?

I believe that it is through these times of great sadness and challenges that our true nature comes out and we are able to dig down deep and find resources and abilities within ourselves that we may not have known existed.

I heard that each, prayer, act of kindness and concern actually lifts up our whole world to levels unknown before.  I encourage each one of us to dig deep within ourselves and realize that every thought for good actually influences our world and so rather than throw up our hands in confusion, we stand in the belief and power to change things through our thoughts and prayers.
